Saint Pée sur Nivelle's old bridge
In the Basque Country, near the Pyrenees is conducive to the development of waterways added to this the old way of Saint Jacques de Compostela, you have a mix conducive to the presence of beautiful old bridges. The bridge that I present today is located Ibarron (Ibarrun), a Saint Pee sur Nivelle district (Western Pyrenees Atlantiques 64).
This is a beautiful Roman-style stone bridge has an arch. However, its construction is much more recent as it will go back to the twelfth and fourteenth centuries.
The bridge Ibarrun no longer open to motorized vehicles, is well preserved throughout. Its upper part was covered with a coated beginning to withdraw revealing beautiful cobblestones, in the style of Saint Etienne de Baïgorry bridge.
This bridge Saint Pee sur Nivelle enjoys protection of historical monuments since 28 December 1984. It is the property of the town and seems well maintained because even if these pictures do not let predict the Nivelle (which flows in the Atlantic Ocean at Saint Jean de Luz, less than 10 kilometers as the crow flies) sometimes known flood can be dramatic.
The structure of this bridge is quite large because all measured in terms of dimensions approximately 30 meters in length 3 width. This bridge allows span the Nivelle and allowed many Jacquets joining Compostela by this ancient road that is now more generally borrowed for this purpose. The view of the Nivelle is quite nice, and peaceful. No benches or picnic tables are available nearby.
To reach this bridge you park on Ibarrun to the D 918 near the pediment of pala, from there take the path of Arroztegia (first right back to the county) towards the west on a little over 300 meters and you will see the bridge that will be on your left. Note that the city of Saint Pée also includes a second beautiful old bridge (ruined it) in the district of Amotz. Thank you to you. All rights reserved.
